Complete with 40 numbered engravings on 37 plates whereof one is folding. Second edition translated into French. First printed in Latin in 1701. The author, Hendrik van Deventer (1651-1724), was as Morton #6253 writes, the greatest obstetrician in his time. 'This work gives the first accurate description of the female pelvis and its deformities, and the effect of the latter in complicating labour.' Wellcome 460p. von Haller p532. Corners and edges a little rubbed Small crack in upper right hinge. Some rubbing to the hinges and an old repair to the foot of the spine. Spots to the preliminary leaves and light marginal browning in areas. Generally a well preserved copy of a very important work. Very Good. Item #7698
