Parallel Greek and Latin text printed on thick quality paper. The text, according to Ebert #11179, follows that of Stephens printed in 1551. Edited by John Ernest Grabe (1666-1711), a scholar and theologian of German origin who had fled Lutheran Prussia and settled in England in 1697. He believed strongly in regaining and retaining the purity of the primitive Church. Dibdin p181 "The first edition of the First Apology: with the Latin version of Langius". Lowndes p1247 which lists this copy in the description as 'Drury 4625'. Carter #12. From the Library of Rev. Henry Drury (1778-1841) with his characteristic Charta Maxima notation in the upper right hand corner on the front blank. Seymour de Ricci p.98 writes that Rev Drury was a friend of Dibdin and an excellent classical scholar'. Some light wear to the binding along the hinges and a few scrap marks on the rear board, otherwise a fresh clean copy of a very nicely printed edition. Carter #12, Very Good. Item #7561
