The English Parliament passed the Act of Uniformity of 1662 restoring the Book of Common Prayer as the official liturgy. The Act stated that any minister who did not confirm to the Book of Common Prayer by St. Bartholomew?s Day 1662, would be ejected from the Church of England. About 2,000 Protestant ministers denied the authority of the Church of England and were removed. This is one of several collections of farewell sermons preached by dissenting ministers who were forced from their pulpits.
