Sir George Grey, KCB (1812 ¿ 1898) was a British soldier, explorer, Governor of South Australia and of New Zealand as well as Governor of Cape Colony (South Africa). Sir George Grey collected books for over 65 years and created two important personal collections while in New Zealand. His Philological Library was sold much earlier. Part one includes South Africa. Over 300 lots listed with numerous bibliographical commentaries. Vol I Part II covers Africa (North of the Tropic of Capricorn), Vol I Part III covers Madagascar, Vol II Part I Australia, Vol II Part II Australia and Polynesia and III Papuan languages. Vol II Part IV New Zealand, Vol II Part IV Polynesia. A really useful bibliographical reference source due to the thorough bibliographical commentaries. A well preserved copy, despite the ex library.
