This rhymed chronicle is considered the most important work of the Byzantine writer Constantine Manasses (1130 - c. 1187). Its importance is principally based on its popularity and influence. The Greek text is followed by a translation into Latin. The editor, Johannes Meursius (1579-1639) was a dutch classical scholar. He became Professor of History at Soro Academy in Denmark. Sandys II p311, Ebert #12894. Spotting throughout with light foxing and marginal stain along the lower edges. Upper hinge along one inch of the rear board. Edges a rubbed due to wear. Bookplate removed from in the inside front board and remains of a rubber old rubber stamped ownership covered by a modern book label. A scarce edition. Very Good. Item #7064
