Includes a detailed preface by Sabin & Sons. Thomas W. Field (1820-1881) was forced to sell his collection in 1875 due to pressing financial needs. He turned to Joseph Sabin to catalogue and sell the collection. The sale realized, according to Cannon p124, $13,500 which was good considering the business depression at the time. Portion missing from the lower left corner of the front wrapper bound in only affecting a few letters. Old signature on front wrapper.
