A Residence at Constantinople in the year 1827. With Notes to the Present time

New Haven: Durrie and Peck, 1830. Hardcover. 384p, Foldout map. Contemporary calf with the front board detached. Lacking the frontispiece view of Constantinople. Rev. Josiah Brewer (1796-1872) was born in Massachusetts. He later established a girls school in Izmir and returned to the US in 1838. It is interesting to note this work contain an early commentary claiming that the Rothschild's had allegedly proposed to purchase Palestine from the Turkish Government. [See p361]. Some marginal foxing throughout with a small stain on the title page. The map is intact with no tears. Some rubbing to the boards and wear to headband. Rather scarce. Good. Item #6927
