Paris: Chez Les Libraires Associes. Hardcover. 12 volumes. 1759-1789. Contemporary french patterned calf with richly gilt spines in compartments and red fore-edges. Lacking volume 13. First edition of the collected works of Henri François d'Aguesseau (1668¿1751). He became the Chancellor of France three times between 1717 and 1750 and is referred to by Voltaire "as the most learned magistrate France ever possessed". A second edition appeared in 1819. See NBG col 426-434. Brunet II col468; Ebert #286, A fresh clean with some rubbing to the headbands and minor cracking to the hinges. Contemporary signature on the title page in all volumes. Marginal tear on a couple of leaves in volumes five and eight without affecting the text. Small marginal stain on a few preliminary leaves in volume twelve.
