Amstelodami: Danielem Elzevirium, 1672. Hardcover. Four Volumes. Engraved frontispiece, [50], 869p; 998p, [84]; [22], 75p, 316p, [28]. The fourth volume is Seneca's Tragedies printed by Theodore Boom in 1682. [58], 785p, [38]. Early 19th century red morocco with the gilt monogram of Rev. Theodore Williams on the boards on all four volumes and gilt fore-edges. Bindings stamped J. Clarke. Moss p579 "This is by far the most beautiful and correct edition of Seneca". Dibdin II p398-399. Copinger 4303. Rev Williams had Seneca's Tragedies edited by Johannes Fredericus Gronovious bound as volume IV in the set. Schweiger III p940-941. The Library as sold in 1827. Old repair to the front hinge of volume one and some rubbing to the headbands. Spines a little sunned, otherwise a fresh clean set with an interesting provenance. Later bookplate of Schwartz Hillcrest & Pittsburgh on the inside front boards as well as Robert Wayne Stilwell with his bookplate on the inside front blank. Very Good. Item #6659
