Historiae Naturalis Libri XVII quos interpretatione et notis illustravit Joannes Harduinus e Societate Jesu, Jussu Regis Christianissimi Ludovici Magni, in usum serenissimi Delphini. Editio Altera

Paris: Typis Antonii-Urbani Coustelier, 1723. 2 volumes. [32], Engraved fold-out map, [8] of plates depicting coins, 790p, [3] of plates depicting coins, 1289p. Contemporary calf with gilt spines. Both volumes are rebacked preserving most of the original spines and the corners on volume I are repaired. Second edition. First published in 4to 1685 and edited by the Jesuit Jean Hardouin of Quimper (1646-1729). Ebert #17294 prefers this edition over the first due to the revisions. Dibdin p325 notes that the second edition is by far the more copious, splendid and critical performance. The explanatory notes are placed under the text and the critical ones are inserted at the end of each book. Some light marginal stains, but otherwise a fresh clean copy with a contemporary bookplate in each volume. Very Good. Item #2854

Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
