Catalogue of the Library of the Boston Athenaeum 1807-1871

Boston: 1874. 724p, 725p-1490p, 1491p-2166p, 2167p-2908p, 2909-3402p, 24p. Five volumes whereof four are bound in library cloth and one in original quarter calf. Ex library copy with the bookplate on the inside front board and perforated stamps on the title pages. It ends with a thoroughly interesting commentary by the editor where he addresses the history of the publication and how it was first entrusted to 'several young men' who had no experience in cataloguing. The work was then transfered to as Mr. Charles Lowell - a lover of books - who apparently according to the editor was also without experience. The work finally reached Charles Cutter after Mr. Lowell had passed away. Generally a fresh clean set with a few nicks in the paper and some occasional minor paper repairs without affecting the text. The spine on the volume bound in quarter calf is somewhat rubbed with a few stains. Very Good. Item #2729

4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
