SIGNED DEDICATION BY THE EDITOR CHRISTOPHER CELLARIUS TO THE GERMAN LAWYER FRIEDRICH BENEDICT CARPZOV (1649-1699) DATED HALLE OCTOBER 1697. While the engraved frontispiece is dated 1698, the title page is dated 1697. However, since Cellarius has dated his dedication 1697, it must be assumed that this was the official publication date which differs from the various bibliographers who places the publication date a year later. There are also numerous contemporary annotations in the last index, as well as some in the text. Moss p496 refers to it as a very respectable edition and greatly superior to every preceding one in point of correctness and purity. Schweiger I. p346. 19th century roan over paper covered boards.
