Sir Charles Bell (1774 ? 1842) was a Scottish surgeon, anatomist, physiologist, neurologist, artist, and philosophical theologian. He is noted for discovering the difference between sensory nerves and motor nerves in the spinal cord. He is also noted for describing Bell's palsy. Part of The Bridgewater Treatises. The 8th Earl of Bridgewater (1756-1829) had bequeathed 8000 pounds for the writing and publishing of specific works "on the Power, Wisdom, and Goodness of God, as Manifested in the Creation". Eight authors were selected through the assistance of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of London. The volumes were published by William Pickering printed in 1000 copies by Charles Whittingham between 1833 and 1840. This volume is the fourth in the series. Not in Keynes.
