Troy: Obadiah Penniman, 1803. Frontispiece, 162p, [2]. Contemporary calf. Small chip at the foot. First American edition. Thomas Beddoes (1760?1808) was an English physician and scientific writer. From the library of Seth Hastings (1745-1830) and his son, Seth Hastings, JR (1780-1861) with signatures on the inside front blanks. Both were physicians in Clinton, New York. The older Hastings was also a surgeon in the Connecticut militia detachment of Colonel Increase Moseley (1740-1811) during the American Revolution. Later bookplate as well as perforated stamp of Dr. Calhoun, Bankers Life, Lincoln, Nebraska. Some general rubbing to the extremities and scattered foxing throughout otherwise a well-preserved copy.
