Paris: Dufart. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. xvi, 567p: 444p. Contemporary burgundy morocco with richly gilt spines, gilt ruled boards, inside dentelles and geometric designs on the boards. Blue end papers and gilt foredge. Complete with 11 engraved plates in vol 1 and 16 engraved plates in vol 2. Cohen-deRicci col 434. From the Library of noted scholar and bookbinding historian Geoffrey Dudley Hobson (1882-1949) with bookplates in both volumes. Later bookplate of New York socialite and book collector Ross Ambler Curran (1879-1940). Also a smaller and older book label with the initials AM. Since the Curran plate is partly passed over the section of Hobsons, it's quite possible this copy left the Hobson library during his lifetime. Hobson's personal library remained with his son, Anthony, until his passing in 2014 at which point it was donated to Oxford University. A few spots in the text and some light scattered foxing otherwise a very attractive copy in an exceptionally well preserved masterful binding. Item #2357
