New York and Conn. River Railroad Freight Tariff dated April 14th 1856
1856. Broadside measuring 16.5" x 22". The Connecticut River Railroad (CRRR) was established in 1845 as a result of a merger of the Northampton and Springfield Railroad with the Greenfield and Northampton Railroad. Itt expanded rather rapidly with lines that ran north-south along the Connecticut River. It was acquired by the Boston and Maine Railroad in 1893. This broadside freight tariff which went into effect April 14th, 1856, separate products under a First Class and Second-Class tariff. Products under first class, including perishables various household products and clothing while the second-class cover more bulk type products and durable goods. Like modern day transportation, insurance and risk are addressed. A force majeure clause is included and a list of products that cannot be transported on the rail. This type of broadsides was printed for temporary use only and copies have often not survived. A few marginal chips have been repaired with what seems to be non-acidic tape. A horizontal fold mark along the center of the broadside and a faint stain. Small marginal piece missing and a few smudge marks otherwise a well-preserved copy. Item #2349
