Salem County in New Jersey Colonial Indenture dated 1740
1740. A loan indenture between the Commission of Loan Office in the County of Salem, New Jersey and Aaron Leaming Sr (1687-1746) of Cape May. The indenture is signed by Wm Hancock with a vax seal. Hancock (1693-1762) a prominent Quaker and Justice of the Peace in Salem County 1727 and member of the colonial legislature. His son, William Hancock
(c.1712-1778) also a Quaker and a judge was killed at the Hancock Bridge massacre in March 1778 when Major John Graves Simcoe led about 300 British soldiers and Queen's Rangers through a marsh and across Alloway Creek to surround Hancock House. Measures approximately 12.5" x 14.5" Two tiny holes at a fold without loss and an old paper repair at the back along a fold otherwise a clean document. very good. Item #2343
