Hawes Cambridge with their stamp on the lower part of the inside front board. Includes 25 maps and plans as well as 85 illustrations by Jewett. Robert Burn (1829 - 1904) was an English classical scholar and archaeologist and Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. Sandys III p446 "The best book on the subject in English and bears ample evidence of careful study of classical authors and the modern topographical literature". Includes a signed inscription by Burns to the English writer and scholar Arthur Woollgar Verrall (1851-1912) on the inside front blank From the Library of George Stace JP with his bookplate on the inside front board. George Stace 1852-1918) was Mayor Cambridge 1906-1907 & 1910-1911. Additional later signatures as well on the inside front blank. Minor rubbings to the headband and along the hinges otherwise a well preserved association copy by a fine bookbinder. Item #10571
