Humphrey Hody (1659-1707) was an English scholar and theologian. Hody's main works are dissertations published in 1685 arguing that Aristeas claim that Jews had translated the Septuagint into Greek was a medieval fabrication. Lowndes II p1080. "A learned and esteemed classical work on the Septuagint to which all subsequent writers have been greatly indebted". Bohn's Catalogue 1841 #10555 "Among the writers of the Septuagint version, no one has displayed either more knowledge on the subject, or more critical sagacity than Hodius". But, Hody is also known for his dispute with Richard Bentley over orthography. Internally a fresh clean copy with the hinges repaired and an old bookplate from a university on the inside front board.
