John Erskine (1695-1768) was a Scottish jurist and professor of Scottish law at the University of Edinburgh. He wrote the Principles of the Law of Scotland and An Institute of the Law of Scotland which are both prominent books on Scots law. Lowndes p752 while not mentioning this edition, refers to it as a "much esteemed work". Old signature of William Prendergast in brown ink on the title page. Hinges cracked and tender, but holding. Wear to the extremities and headband otherwise internally clean. Scarce. Item #10453
