Sir Ricard Hutton (1560-1639) was "characterized by Clarendon as 'a very venerable judge,' and 'a man famous in his generation,' and by Croke as 'a grave, learned, pious, and prudent judge, or great courage and patience in all proceedings"(DNB) Without frontispiece portrait and final leaf of table of contents. Wing 3855A. Early inked inscription in upper margin of title page now largely illegible. With a 19th century gift inspection signed Dr. Usher Parsons noting that this copy once belonged to Noah Emery (1699-1761), "the first settled lawyer in Maine". Dr. Parsons (1788-1868) was born in Alfred, Maine but later resided in Rhode Island. Title page with tissue reinforcement to upper portion, pages toned and stained with edge war to the first and last few leaves. Spine very slightly toned. A solid copy with an interesting provenance.
