Handwritten letter dated Hempstead, March 14, 1825

A handwritten letter written on one side and measuring 7.3/4" x 9.5" to Lt. Governor James Tallmadge (1778-1853) signed P.S. VanOrden which is most likely Peter S. VanOrden of Rockland County, a Major General of the Fourth Infantry Division of the New York State. VanOrden apologizes for not having written earlier and congratulates James Tallmadge on the second seat in the state. He then writes about a young lawyer named William Thayer who has been practicing in Rockland County. Some marginal toning to the paper. Includes the second sheet which formed the envelope. The text is clear. Item #10401
