Axel Leonhard von Klinckowström (1775 -1837) was a Swedish Lt. Colonel in the Navy. He was sent to the United States in 1818 to study the steam engine ships and during his travels wrote about his experiences. An attractive atlas volume was published separately, but was at the time considered expensive, so it is far more uncommon. Spine rubbed along the hinges and with a worn headband. Marbled paper covering the boards as well as the blank end papers later. Remnants of the original marbled paper is visible on the rear cover. Scattered foxing. Howes K-201. Item #10308
