The Prairie; A Tale

Philadelphia: Carey, Lea & Carey-Chestnut Street, 1827. xii, 13-252p: 276p. Contemporary quarter sheep over marbled boards. Burgundy spine labels and gilt ruled spines. First American edition with the corrections on the copyright page. Scattered foxing throughout. An unusual inscription on the inside front blank "A token of Remembrance from Rob B. Storer Stockholm, the 14 April 1831" This could possibly be Robert Boyd Storer (1796-1870) a Boston, MA importer trading with Russia as a visit to Stockholm via the trade route to St. Petersburg would seem reasonable. Probably his leisure reading for the long trip across the Atlantic that he had now finished and offered it as a gift. Lower part of the first blank leaf in volume ii partially attached to the front pastedown. A well-preserved set with nominal wear. Blanck vol 2, #3836. Item #10269
