First edition of one of the earliest authoritative biographies of Jefferson, by the son of Jefferson's contemporary and frequent correspondent. Reverend Linn, who notoriously opposed Jefferson's presidency by arguing he was anti--Christian, with William Linn here qualifying his father's position saying Jefferson's stated views are not those of "an enemy to Christianity". This biography precedes comprehensive study of 1858. Scattered foxing throughout. Headband a little rubbed and hinges cracked, but holding firm. Internally clean. 19th century bookplate of Calbin S.
