Includes three of the five full page engravings. Joshua Barnes (1654-1712) became Professor of Greek at Cambridge in 1695. See Sandys p57. Lowndes p116 "An elaborate collection of facts, intermixed with long speeches from Barnes imagination in imitation of Thucydides'. Its interesting that Lowndes only mentions four illustrations and not the frontispiece. From the Library of Nicholas L'Estrange (1661-1724) with his signature on the top of the title page. L'Estrange was a member of Parliament and signed the loyal address to the king during the uprising of,1682. Sir George Shuckburgh 91751-1804) was an astronomer, mathematician and politician. He was also a member of Fellow of the Royal Society. A well preserved copy in the original binding with occasional scattered foxing. Item #10134
