Charles Chauncy (1705-1787) was an American Congregational clergyman and a supporter of the American Revolution. This study shows in depth scholarship and learning. Rev. Chauncy adds in his introduction that while he has used "my own words, unless when I give notice to the contrary". When quoting the relevant passages from the Fathers, Rev Chauncy writes that he has used the version of Archbishop William Wake and since there was not a sufficiency of Greek types in town, and dexterity to use" Greek words are spelled with Latin letters. Sabin 12314. Contemporary signature of Joseph Howe 1773 on the inside front blank. Additional signature of Samson Howe as well as notations on the inside rear blank. Scattered foxing throughout and some brown spots. Marginal tear on leaf vii in the preface affecting a couple of letters. Corners worn. Item #10109
