Item #10008 Daphnide et Chloe, Libri Quatuor. Petrus Moll Snecanus. Longus.

Daphnide et Chloe, Libri Quatuor. Petrus Moll Snecanus

Franekerae: Joannis Arcerii, 1660. [18], 122p, [20]. Contemporary calf with burgundy morocco label. This is, as Giles Barber p18-19 points out in his 1988 Panizzi Lectures on Daphnis and Chloe, "the most widely held of the early scholarly editions". Edited by Greek scholar Petrus Moll [1596-1669]. It includes the original Greek text with a Latin translation. There is an element of irony that Daphnis and Chloe was first published in French and English before the first edition [1598] in the original Greek appeared. The 1660 edition, however, was the last in Greek to appear in the 17th cenutry. Hoffman p531. Graesse 254. Front hinges cracked and a little a weak, but holding. Title lable on the spine is chipped. Some general very light browning to the margins otherwise a fresh clean copy of a very scarce edition. From the Library of William Cecil Chambers with bookplate. Very Good. Item #10008

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Price: $450.00
