Thomas James Mathias (1754-1835) was a British scholar and author. The Pursuit of Literature is by far his most famous work. The first dialog was published in 1794, the second and third in 1796 and the fourth in 1797. This is the first edition printed in America and includes the introductory advertisement preface to the seventh edition. Foxed throughout with occasional contemporary ink stains. Spine and extremities rubbed with the corners exposed. Includes the pagination errors on p431. With a contemporary book label of J. B. Campbell on the inside front board. Good. Item #008158
