Paris: Apud Claudium Cramoisy, 1659. Hardcover. [6], 261p. Contemporary calf with a richly gilt spine. Lacking the frontispiece, but complete with 43 full page plates in the text. The frontispiece is dated 1659, while the title page is dated 1660. From the Library of Pierre Philippe Constant Lammens (1762-1836), librarian and Professor at the University of Ghent with his bookplate. Later bookplate of Frederick Collins Wilson with his motto 'Facta Non Verba'. Antonio Gallonio (1556-1605) was an Italian priest who wrote about the saints and wrote about their martyrdom. First printed in Italian in 1591 with plates engraved by Antonio Tempesta (1550-1630). A Latin translation appeared in 1594. See Ebert #8118 and 8119. Brunet col#1468, Perennes col #335. Wear to the head and foot of the spine. Front hinge partially cracked at the head, but holding firm. Small mark at the bottom of the front board. Internally clean. Very Good. Item #008142
