A Poem on the President's Farewell Address with a Sketch of the Character of his Successor
Philadelphia: John Ormrod. No Binding. 8p. Unbound. The first edition appeared in 1796. The second is not dated, but according to the bibliography appeared between 1797-1800. The author (1763-1798) was born in Leicester, MA. His father was an English physician who had settled in Leicester and was killed at Ticonderoga in 1776 while surgeon in the army. The son was left destitute, but was educated by friends and graduated at Yale in 1782. He was one of the Presidential electors who chose John Adams as the successor of Washington. Sabin #63588. Scattered foxing throughout. William A. Cormier, Salem historian, writes a very moving historical and biographical tribute to Honeywood in the March 4th 2019 issue of the New York History Review. He refers to Honeywood as "Salems finest 18thcentury poet, artist, intellectual, educator, politician, lawyer, and newspaper editor". A very scarce edition. Very Good. Item #008134
