Last leaf of volume I detached and trimmed. Lacking the frontispiece and the title page to volume II. 19th century marginal annotations throughout in pencil. A few contemporary annotations in ink as well. Bound with John Allen's A Spiritual Exposition of the New Testament, London 1767. John Allen (about 1741/42 - sometime in 1780) was a Baptist minister with some financial difficulties. He spent some time in debtor's prison in 1767 and was accused of forgery in 1769 though he was acquitted. He left England for Boston in 1771 and his "Oration on the Beauties of Liberty" delivered December 3rd, 1772 was reprinted several. Clearly very scarce. Not listed in the ESTC. Worldcat shows one copy of this imprint at the American Jewish University. The ESTC does have the title with a 1770 imprint and the same publishers as the 1769 edition. It lists one location for the 1770 title: Queens College, Cambridge. Hinges cracked, but holding. Residue after heavy tape along the edges. Headbands worn and corners bumped. Good. Item #008041
