First complete edition of Louisiana congressman Robertson's Letters from Paris describing Napoleon's final days. Inscribed by him on the rear end paper to fellow congressman Thomas Telfair (1780-1818). While visiting Paris during the last days of the Napoleonic Empire, Robertson penned a number of letters to "his friend in Virginia". A selection was published as A Journal of Events in Paris from June 29t to July 13 1815. By an American (Philadelphia, Carey 1815). A preliminary advertisement in that edition states. "The world has had abundance of British and French views [of Napoleon's last days]. but this, it is believed, is the only American view that has appeared. This is the first complete edition of Robertson's letters in book form. This copy is inscribed by Congressman Thomas Robertson to Thomas Telfair, a fellow congressman from Georgia. Robertson served as one of Louisiana's Representatives in the US.S. House from 1812-18, he went on to become Governor of Louisiana and a federal judge. Spine professionally reinforced.
