Major Andre was hanged as a spy by the Continental Army for assisting Benedict Arnold's attempted surrender of the fort at West Point, New York, to the British. From the Library Company in Philadelphia with their bookplate on the inside front board. 'Duplicate sale' written at the corner of the bookplate. Hinge a little rubbed, but holding firm. Library shelf number gilt stamped on the spine. Small spot on the title page and an old handwritten notation regarding Major Andre inserted after the title page. Light occasional browning, otherwise a clean copy of this scarce first edition. Very Good. Item #007849
