Groningae: Hajonem Spandaw. Contemporary Vellum. Four volumes. 1744-1752. [30], 244p, [2]; [20], 452p, 160p, [46], [4]; [18], 426p, [26], 240p; [20], 414p, 236p, [44]. Contemporary vellum over boards with blind stamped arabesque design in the center of each panel and with 24 full page engraved portraits. Green and red leather title labels. An interesting study of the reformation divided up by countries and with biographical commentaries as well as some occasional bibliographical notes. Published by the theologian Daniel Gerdes, (1698-1765), who served as Professor of Theology and the University of Groningen from 1736 until his death in 1765. Aside from his numerous theological writings where he among things criticized the Mennonites for teaching false dogma, he also published a work on rare books meant as a continuation of Vogt's work. Graesse p57. Hinges cracked and loose on volume one. All bindings a little warped. Some light browning throughout and offsetting from a few of the plates, otherwise a very good copy. From a Theological Library with call numbers in black ink on the spine. Very Good. Item #003080
